Myrtle is a spontaneous plant of the Myrtaceae family spread throughout the Mediterranean. Sardinia is an essential constituent of the Mediterranean vegetation that covers much of the territory up to five hundred meters above sea level and is located next to the strawberry tree, the mastic tree, juniper and numerous cistus.
Myrtle, as well as being the main ingredient for the distillation of fine liquors, occupies a prominent role for the traditional pastry, which mainly comes as a flavoring essence and form of jam and marmalade.
